A NEW Coat for Christmas is a brand-new show for little ones created by The Oxford Playhouse.
Staged at the Burton Theatre, performances of the magical show, filled with fun, music and dressing-up, last just 50 minutes.
Based on Harriet Ziefert’s post-war children’s story, A New Coat for Anna, this play tells the story of a little girl who needs a new coat to keep her warm in the winter.
But times are hard, so she and her mother set about making one – with a little help from their friends.
A New Coat for Christmas takes the audience on a walk through the seasons as the coat slowly comes to life.
As winter turns to spring they visit the farmer and his flock of very fluffy sheep and ask for wool.
In the summer time a spinner and weaver help turn it into cloth and in the autumn the tailor makes it into a beautiful red coat with six pretty buttons.
The coat is ready just in time for the cosiest Christmas they have had for a very long time.
A New Coat for Christmas is inspired by a true tale of finding friendship in the most surprising circumstances.
Written and directed by Anna Glynn, of Flintlock Theatre, the show stars Leonie Spilsbury, whose previous appearances at Oxford Playhouse include What To Do When You Find A Dinosaur, Robin Hood and Hurry Up Father Christmas.
She appears alongside Laura Soper, who is making her professional acting debut.
This show is an Oxford Playhouse production in association with Flintlock Theatre and Reading Rep. It’s the perfect treat for three to six-year-olds. It runs from today until January 7.
Tickets cost from £7 and are available from the Oxford Playhouse Ticket Office on 01865 305305 or at oxfordplayhouse.com
