Christian Ribeiro believes Oxford United’s 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic showed the best of what English football’s third tier has to offer.
The full back scored his first goal in Oxford colours, 16 months after joining the club on a free from Exeter City.
His stunning volley rescued a point for the U’s in what was an entertaining League One game at the Kassam Stadium.
He said: “I can’t believe nobody’s got any faith in me – that left foot’s not just for standing on, honestly!
“It was one of those things, it just landed to me at the time, but more importantly it was at a good time in the game to get back into it.”
Both sides played some neat football, a stark contrast from the test posed by Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Welshman Ribeiro, who scored on his 14th game for the club, said: “For the first 20 minutes we were on the ropes a little bit and they were a really good side.
“I was really impressed by Charlton. They’re going to be a top-four side this year – the best we’ve played.
“We were sluggish at the start for some reason but it was a good time to get back to 1-1 and the rest of the game was a good, even battle with both teams going for it. It was a really good game – a good advert for League One.”
Both teams remain in the play-offs and United host Rotherham United on Saturday.
n Oxford United have drawn an away tie in the first round of the FA Cup with League Two side Port Vale who are just above the relegation zone. The match is due to be played between November 3 and 6.
