SPORTSMEN and women across Chipping Norton have been honoured at the ninth annual sports awards.
A string of awards were presented to celebrate young people’s achievements and adults who help run the town’s sports clubs at a ceremony at the Town Hall on Friday.
This year’s winners included cricketer Jake Brown, who won the under-11 sportsperson award, and gymnast Kitty Hitchens, who picked up the 11 to 17-year-old sportsperson trophy.
Toby Robottom, who plays rugby union, received the over-18 sportsperson award.
Teams receiving awards included Chipping Norton School boys’ rugby union under-18 team, Ascott Under Wychwood based Windrush Valley School’s trampoline team and the Four Shires Swimming Club.
Chippy Swifts’ manager/coach Luke Newman received a gold medal as part of the Olympic Legacy Awards which honour people who help run sports clubs while David Brassett and Richard Ferley, who coach for Chipping Norton Cricket Club, were given silver medals.
Bronze went to Zoe Wakefield for her work to fundraise and promote Four Shires Swimming Club.
Organiser Graham Beacham said a “big thank you” to all those who helped stage the event. He advised people to ‘watch out for next year’.
The 10th Annual Town Sports Awards will be on February 8, 2019.
