Work on the second phase of the 2,500-home Kingsmere development in Bicester could begin later this year.
CALA Homes has secured land for 247 homes and is preparing a planning application to be submitted to Cherwell District Council.
Subject to approval, the builder will then deliver a selection of two, three, four and five bedroom homes.
Daniel Forrester, area land director for CALA Homes Midlands, said: “We are delighted to have been contracted to deliver the first homes of the second phase of development at Kingsmere.
“We look forward to contributing to this exciting new community and delivering more high quality housing for the local area.
“Our focus is now on preparing a detailed planning application for submission to Cherwell District Council in the coming months with a view to starting on site by the end of the year.”
Construction started on the site, located off Middleton Stoney Road and Oxford Road, in 2010 and, following the first phase of development, is now home to around 800 families.
Once complete, Kingsmere will boast a new secondary school, two primary schools, a village centre with shops, a community and youth centre, a sports village, several parks and green open spaces and a retail park.
A car park will also be built along with two bicycle shelters catering for up to 20 bikes.
As part of the scheme, Countryside Properties (Bicester), which is behind the overall development, is contributing towards infrastructure improvements in and around Bicester.
This includes public transport, education, library services and highway improvements. An enhanced local bus service already runs directly through the site providing a link to Bicester town centre and Oxford.
Earlier this month Oxfordshire County Council submitted plans for the 600-pupil secondary.
If approved, Alchester Academy is expected to open in September 2019 and would be run by The White Horse Federation as an academy.
Plans include 15 normal classrooms, five science classrooms, an IT suite, a music suite, four art rooms, a drama studio, student dining room, ‘break-out area’, main hall, sports hall and a kitchen.
