Top dog Magic Mike was jumping for joy after storming to success at one of the UK’s largest dog shows.
The 18-month-old Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen beat 9,381 other dogs to claim the title at the prestigious Manchester Championship Dog Show in Stafford last month.
Magic Mike was led to victory in the Best in Show category by owner Sara Robertson from Wallingford.
“It was such an amazing feeling of joy and pride when Mike was chosen as the Best in Show winner,” she said.
“You picture it happening but never think it will be your own dog which gets selected. Mike is such a sweet boy.”
Success runs in the family too – Sara’s husband Gavin handled Mike’s mother Jilly to the Best in Show title at Crufts in 2013.
The rough-coated Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen was originally bred to trail hare in the bramble-filled terrain of the Vendée district of western France. They are known to be active, happy, independent and willing to please.
Mum-of-two Sara added: “PBGVs are a breed which enjoys life regardless of what sort of day you may be having yourself – they always make you smile.”
