Renault ‘need’ another trouble-free weekend at the Bahrain GP as they look to build on a solid opening round in Australia.
The Enstone-based side want to improve on a ‘strong’ showing in Melbourne as Formula 1 prepares for a double-header away from its Oxfordshire base.
The races come thick and fast and the calendar takes the team to Bahrain on Sunday before China the following week.
Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz scooped seven points as both drivers finished in the top 10 last time out.
Managing director Cyril Abiteboul said: “Bahrain is the second race of the year and we need another trouble-free weekend, especially as we enter a double-header far away from our European base. In Australia, there were a number of strong points; reliability, performance and the final result. We did not have any reliability issues, nor our two partner teams (Red Bull and McLaren).”
Hülkenberg has his sights on reducing the gap to the front runners.
The Dane said: “I really enjoy Bahrain as the heat is guaranteed and the atmosphere is always good to experience.
“After Australia, we’ve sent out a positive message from Enstone, but we need to reduce the gap to the front and that’s the challenge.”
Team-mate Sainz added: “Scoring points at the first Grand Prix of the year is always important and the pace was there, so I can’t wait to jump into the car in Bahrain.”
