Children’s book illustrator Korky Paul drew a crowd as he opened a new library at an Oxford primary school.
Windale Community Primary School fundraised through non-uniform days, cake sales and fairs in an effort to buy new books and equipment for the £10,000 refurbishment.
Mr Paul, who lives in Oxford, led a whole-school assembly, during which he drew a special edition picture of his 1987 award-winning creation Winnie the Witch, which he gifted to the school.
Staff and children at the Windale Avenue school cheered as he cut the ribbon to open the facility last month.
Headteacher Katie Geran-Haq said: “The children are excited to have an on-site library to access a whole range of reading material, including non-fiction, picture books, novels and comics.
“We also have an online ‘reading cloud’ with e-books where children can review what they have read and blog about their reading.
Work on the project began in September 2016 and was completed last month.
