Chipping Norton driver Sean Walkinshaw returns to the scene of his maiden Super GT Championship race victory today for the second round of the 2018 season.
The ARTA driver is eyeing GT300 silverware as minimum at Fuji Speedway in Japan during the annual Japanese holidays to celebrate Constitutional Memorial Day and Greenery Day.
Walkinshaw, 24, opened his account during the Okayama curtain-raiser in April with a top-six finish, but the Oxfordshire driver has high hopes of securing a first podium finish in Japan.
He said: “Fuji holds great memories from last year, it’s a fantastic track and the ARTA BMW is strong there so I’m really looking forward to this week’s race.
“We hoped for a little bit more from Okayama, but at a circuit which doesn’t suit the BMW we were all pretty satisfied with a top six start to the season. Going to Fuji, though, we’re aiming much higher.
“If we can have a trouble-free couple of days then we’ve got a strong chance of the podium and a good chance of fighting for the win.”
Qualifying begins today with the 500km race taking place tomorrow at Fuji Speedway.
