WITH a new album due out Dartmoor-based husband and wife duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will play Banbury’s Mill Theatre.
The pair, who have twice won the coveted Best Duo title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2016 and 2013, are in Banbury on March 16.
With more than two decades of performance the pair mix traditional song arrangements with their self-penned material which reels from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad, the political to the passive, across folk, rock, country and blues genres.
Lakeman plays the acoustic and electric guitarist as well as producing, while vocalist Roberts plays the piano and flute.
Launching their new album Personae tomorrow, this marks their fifth studio album, and it will be showcased on the duo’s 25 date tour.
This latest album opens with a folk-rock version of the Child Ballad The Knight’s Ghost, with Sam Kelly on guest vocals. One of the stand-out tracks is Independence, about the relationship between parent and child and finding your way in the world.
Kathryn said: “We are really looking forward to visiting The Mill again.
“Previous gigs there have always been warm and friendly and the intimacy really suits our style of music.
“We are planning to play a mix of old favourites and introduce new songs from our upcoming CD Personae, it will be the second night in a 25 date tour so our energy levels will still be high.”
