Small errors cost Wheatley a chance of cup glory as Littlemore held the Oxfordshire bragging rights with a 23-10 win in the 2018 Shield final at Iffley Road on Saturday.
Littlemore weathered sustained periods of intense pressure from Wheatley who could not capitalise on the chances they created.
A slow start saw Wheatley concede in the sixth minute to a Stuart Beal penalty before Jonny Gerrard broke the narrow defence to score out wide three minutes later.
Aaron Laman reduced the deficit with a penalty but the score could have been worse if not for Sanda Mpanza’s try saving cover tackles as the purple wall did its best to avoid further breaches.
Littlemore’s Luke Ward found space to burrow over for a try on the stroke of halftime with Beal adding the extras as Wheatley’s attacking display went unrewarded.
In the second half, Wheatley were aggrieved at conceding a penalty for ‘careless use of the boot’, which Beale duly converted.
Wheatley upped the intensity soon after and Jack Taylor eventually found enough space to ghost through and cross the line with Laman adding the conversion, but Littlemore were able to see out the match.
Wheatley are back in league action on Saturday against Tadley.
