An Abingdon cinema will move from its temporary home into a new space at the Abbey Hall this summer.
The Regal Cinema will rent the historic building for the next two years after plans submitted to Abingdon Town Council were approved on March 27.
Proposals to turn the hall into a community hub with multiple public services such as a library, information centre and joint reception and other council services will start from summer 2020.
The Regal attracted almost 8,000 customers to its temporary home in the Unicorn Theatre.
Income from the cinema at the Abbey Hall will support the ongoing running costs of the Guildhall.
Ian Wiper of the Regal Cinema said: “We are delighted with this recommendation and look forward to working with the town council.
“If all goes as expected, we hope to launch in the summer of 2018 with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
“I would like to thank everyone who has visited us so far, our staff at the Unicorn and for the support we have received from people in the town.”
Town councillor Mike Badcock said the plans were “positively received” and the council is “working hard to ensure the outstanding matters are resolved”.
