Oxford has been dubbed one of the best UK travel destinations for young people as the city scooped a silver award at the British Youth Travel Awards in London last week.
The city won the accolade in the Best UK Youth Destination category and is the result of the hard work of visitor information service Experience Oxfordshire, which works with local partners, including the city and county councils, to promote Oxford’s diversity, history and heritage.
Representing Oxford at the awards, Hayley Beer-Gamage, Experience Oxfordshire chief executive, said: “We are delighted with the silver award as it shows that young people love visiting our city of dreaming spires. We know what a great destination Oxford is and it’s great to see this recognised by the millennial generation.”
Councillor Bob Price, leader of Oxford City Council, said he was “delighted but not at all surprised that Oxford has been voted as one of the UK’s best cities for young travellers”.
He added: “As a university city, we have a fabulous range of cafes, clubs, bars for young people and an arts, music and dance scene that is among the best in the country for a small city.”
