Just weeks after one Didcot resident received her invite to the royal wedding another has been honoured with a royal date.
Prolific fundraiser Andy Baker will rub shoulders with the Queen after being invited to a glitzy garden party at Buckingham Palace this summer.
Andy, who founded Didcot-based fundraising group Play2Give in 2007, will meet royals, including the Queen , at the palace on June 5 – his birthday – in what he described as a ‘dream come true’.
P2G, our charity of the year for 2017, raises cash for its two main benefactors, the Oxford Children’s Hospital and brain injury charity Headway Oxfordshire.
Andy, 29, said: “I never in a million years thought I would get this or see the day I would get to go to Buckingham Palace so it’s definitely a dream come true.
“I can’t stop smiling. When my mum gave me this envelope we both ended up crying in tears of happiness.
“This means so much and for me I consider it to be a real achievement to get invited to such a special occasion as this as I’ve overcome and fought so much in my life to achieve against many odds medically.”
Andy is £9,000 away from raising a milestone £100,000 for good causes in his 16 years of fundraising.
