THE pair behind an Oxford comedy club are set to raise the roof across five venues in just one day.
Alex Farrow and Harry Househam run Jericho Comedy, the twice monthly comedy club at the Jericho Café.
Later this month they will host five shows in one day – three evening shows at the Old Fire Station, in the main theatre, the attic and the studio on February 17, which have sold out
Now a further two shows will take place at the Jericho Tavern and the Jericho Cafe from 4pm to 6pm.
The line-up includes James Acaster, Ivo Graham and Rachel Parris, as well as some surprise comedians.
Proceeds from the gigs will be donated to mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind, after Alex and Harry pledged to organise 50 comedy nights in honour of the charity’s 50th anniversary.
So far, the pair have raised £2,000.
Harry said: “We quite often ‘double room’ i.e. doing two shows simultaneously.”
“For this gala we will be ‘double rooming’ in the afternoon performing at the Jericho Cafe and the tavern across the road at the same time from 4pm to 6pm.”
But for the evening shows, Harry said they would be “triple rooming performing in all three venues of the Old Fire Station simultaneously”.
He said: “It has been quite an organisational feat but adding rooms means that we’re on track to raise £3,000 for Mind.”
Acaster has appeared on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, the Conan O’Brien show; while Netflix has commissioned three shows and he’s up for the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
Ivo is the youngest ever winner of So You Think You’re Funny, and appeared on television shows Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo and Stand-up Central.
Of the event, Harry said: “Audiences can expect this to be the comedy event of the year.
“Rarely would you get the opportunity to see such great acts up so close in Oxford in such intimate spaces.
“James is about to hit the big time cracking the US scene and with shows commissioned by Netflix, it is really exciting to host him for our regulars and our fellow comedy nerds in Oxford.
“It’ll be a cracking evening of big laughs from some of the UK’s most exciting stand-ups.”
