Rookie Sergey Sirotkin believes Williams “looked like idiots” after both drivers brought up the field in a forgettable Bahrain GP on Sunday.
The Russian, who completed his first race distance at the Sakhir Grand Prix Circuit, delivered his ruthless verdict after he finished 17th and team-mate Lance Stroll brought his car home in 16th.
“A tough feeling after a tough weekend,” the 23-year-old said.
“I know we looked like idiots from the outside. This is quite obvious to me.”
This past weekend, Williams sat at the back of the grid right from Q1 while Toro Rosso, Force India and Sauber all scored at least one point.
Chief technical officer Paddy Lowe has called on the Grove-based team to ‘stick together’, although major upgrades for the FW41 are not expected until the Spanish GP in three races time on May 13.
“It was not a great end to a very tough weekend for the team,” the former Mercedes man said.
“We didn’t have the pace to compete with any other cars except ourselves.
“This is a time to stick together as a team and work intelligently and diligently on the problems we face.”
Lance Stroll, who said after Melbourne that Williams is ‘surviving not racing’, added: “There is a lot of work to be done.”
