A man died after an oil drum explosion in his garden last Friday (July 27).

The 48-year-old was working in his garden on College Way when he suffered serious injuries at around 7.50pm.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital but died from his injuries.

Det Con Rachel Jackson, based at Abingdon police station, said: “There was an increased police presence in the area last night while we investigated the circumstance surrounding this man’s injuries.

“Although at this stage we are currently treating this death as unexplained we do not believe it to be suspicious.”

A post-mortem examination of his body is to be carried out in the next few days by Oxford Coroner’s Service.
