A prolific burglar has been sent to prison for three years after pleading guilty to a burglary in Banbury, and asking for 26 other crimes to be taken into account.
Brian De Bres, 40, of Bloxham Road, Banbury, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday. He asked the judge to take a further 25 burglaries and one theft from a vehicle into consideration. The curt heard that De Bres broke into the unoccupied house in Prospect Road between 1pm on Friday, November 25, and 6.30pm on Sunday, November 27 last year, and stole a number of electrical items and jewellery.
He also made off with a bank card that he used to withdraw money, going on a drug and alcohol binge for several days before his arrest. Det Insp Steve Duffy said “De Bres has committed crime in the Banbury area for many years. The sentence passed reflects how seriously the courts view this crime and sends a clear message to anyone tempted by the thought that burgling peoples homes is an easy crime to commit. I have a dedicated team of officers who will relentlessly pursue people suspected of this particularly distressing crime.”
Richie Iwanoff, of Cherwell CID, said: “De Bres has shown remorse for this offence and his previous victims of crime and wanted to give them closure. He has worked with me and my colleagues in showing us how he would target properties over the years, which will allow us to give crime prevention advice to the public to prevent them from being victims of burglaries which can have particularly distressing effects on victims.”
