For a little boy from Watlington, this Christmas is set to be the best yet.
Over the past six months, the only thing stopping Elliott Baker, four, who suffers from irreversible brain damage, an electric wheelchair was the hefty £18,000 price tag. But after a final fundraising effort, which saw 11 adults take on a sponsored parachute jump on Sunday, the target was reached.
Mum Caroline told the Oxfordshire Guardian: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet that we have reached the target. I remember having a long chat with one of my friends before we started fundraising and we just thought there was no way we would reach £18,000. It’s just absolutely amazing.
“The wheelchair will give him so much independence. If he drops something on the floor, he can pick it up himself because the wheelchair goes right down to the floor.
Or if he wants to get something, he can do it himself. I just want to say a huge thank you to everybody from Elliott.
It just puts your faith back in humanity. We will never be able to say thank you to everyone, but they have helped change Elliott’s life.”
